The Chamber’s Green Award goes to The City of Houston accepted by Cris Eugster, Chief Officer for Sustainable Growth for the City.

The buzzwords flow easily for the City’s plans to transform Houston, into one of the nation's greenest cities.

Quality of life. Energy efficiency. Sustainability.

The City has started their sustainability program by purchasing wind-powered electricity, weatherizing old homes and adding hybrids to the city fleet.  The City also has started to confront the chemical industry over its emissions of cancer-causing air pollutants, such as benzene.
Hoping to stabilize a $150 million annual electricity bill, Houston officials have negotiated a contract to ensure that a third of the city's power is generated by wind.

We are pleased to commend the City in improving all Houstonian’s quality of life.
